Brockenhurst goes National
News from Brockenhurst Flower Club:
We were delighted to welcome the multi-talented and hugely admired David Thomson to Brockenhurst for our National Demonstration in March.
Among his many talents David has been commissioned for displays in the Jewel House at the Tower of London, St. Paul’s Cathedral, Kensington Palace, and the Great West Door at Westminster Abbey. His title of Miscellany was a superb introduction to Floral Art. Each design used 1 colour way of differing shades and tones.
Design1 used soft peach & coffee in various hues & shades with a shot of claret to complete the arrangement.
Design 2 was an open wicker flower basket containing mixed foliage giving a very lush & full background, extending at the sides & domed under the handle.
The designs kept coming with a relaxed triangular ‘A’ shape featured for the next design using oasis set on top of an ironwork garden container. Greening up used foliage of Fatsia & Magnolia leaves, yellow & green Euonymus & variegated Pittosporum. Different leaf shapes & forms created texture & outline incorporating Fatsia pom-pom heads & speckled Aucuba (Laurel). Adding line & drama curled Phormium leaves were attached at the back into the foam. Keeping to a yellow theme, tall mixed height Gerbera escaped from the greenery with Calla Lilies arching from one side. A few yellow Tulips & single Roses were scattered throughout and set deeper into the foam with delicate & scented Genista (Ornamental Broom) completing the display as seen in our main picture.
A foam free hoop was followed by a big dramatic ceramic pot and finally Tall Delphiniums in a dramatic urn.
A marvellous afternoon, thank you, David.
